Welcome to the New School Year!

My name is Ms. Martin, and I'm excited to start the year with my scholars! I've been a teacher for about six years, and at Great Hearts for the past two. I moved over from our neighboring school, Archway Trivium West.

This year second grade will primarily study works by the Impressionists in order to go deeper into ideas about color and light. In third grade, we will see ways art has helped us understand our world better as we study the Realists. We'll paint animals and begin studying the human figure. Fourth grade will get to practice bringing together concepts we've learned in previous years in a new way. We will see the evolution of ideas about lines and colors as we trace the rise of printmaking from China all the way to America. In fifth grade we will get to learn even more about the human figure as we follow the Renaissance artists and their quest for understanding. We will get to draw people, faces, and architecture as we learn how the eyes, muscles, and skeleton of the human body effect what we see.

It all begins next week!
